The contingency of health made big changes in the film industry in Mexico and the world. However, not everything is negative, as new windows of opportunity are opened.

Inside the panel: Premiere or wait: Distribution and sales in the economy COVID, from FILMO, specialists in the subject discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the pandemic about the spaces in the rooms, as well as the advance in digital platforms.

Fernando Montes de Oca, director of marketing and distribution at Fábrica de Cine, warned that the fact that big companies rescheduled their release dates leaves the possibility for independent Mexican film to occupy those places. “I think something that gives us this dynamic of so many major movements, of so much readjustment of calendars, taking into account that there will still be a little fear of people returning to the movies. Right now we have many free spaces in which there will not be as many offers as one would like, that’s when independent Mexican film could find interesting spaces to reach an audience”, he said.

In that sense, María Fernanda Río Armesilla, director of promotion of Mexican film at IMCINE, highlighted the window of opportunities for digital platforms in terms of the exhibition of tapes and the realization of festivals, although she warned to be a believer that “cinema will never end and will always be the most important screen”.

Moderated by Inti Cordera, director of DOCS MX and La Maroma productions, the panelists concluded that the economic recovery of the film will not be easy.
