As part of the fifth day of activities, the festival brought together six female directors, who shared their experiences and creative processes to develop the films they present in the sixteenth edition of the festival.

Moderated by Isabel Rojas, director of OaxacaCine, the women opened up to share what motivated them to share the realities they witnessed, that moved them, or that they decided to make their own.

The topics of their work are very varied and range from racism, violence, or the experiences of the strong earthquake that shook Mexico in 2017, to the ironic attention that was generated around the last male white rhinoceros left on earth.

In the discussion, they addressed the challenges involved in making their films and the importance of taking care of their characters, among other points. The panel was formed by Medhin Tewolde Serrano, director of “Negra”; Nuria Giménez: director of “My Mexican Bretzel”; Alicia Calderón, director of “Drawings against bullets”; Josie Hess, director of “Morgana”; Floor Van der Meulen: director of “The Last Male on the Earth” and Guénola Bally: Director of “7.1”.
