As part of the 5th International Women’s Encounter in Cinema, Debra Zimmerman, Executive Director of Women Make Movies, shared some of the actions they carry out to support the presence of women in film.

In the conversation with Janeth Aguirre, executive director of the ficmomterrey, Zimmerman was optimistic to point out that the participation of the female gender in film in Mexico and the world has grown. However, she said it is not enough, and that is why the organization he heads seeks to support these changes.

“Things have changed enormously for women around the world,” she said, noting the progress in equality in the film industry in countries like Sweden and French-speaking countries.

She explained that they support the production and distribution of films made by women from Women Make Movies.

She shared that Women Make Movies currently distributes a significant number of women’s films, and welcomed the opening that has given them even the health crisis in the world, as it allowed them to reach through a digital festival to Antarctica.

“We are distributing around 700 women’s films around the world”, she said. She also said that women should dare to take the role of directors, and their work could be an inspiration for other women.
