Edition 2001

The 2nd Voladero 2001 International Film and Video Festival was held from August 23rd to the 26th in 2001 at the Nuevo León Cinematheque. 90 film were submitted for competition and for the first time films from Australia and New Zeland were received. Films from México, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States took home the awards this year.

The jury was conformed by Carlos Bolado, renowned Mexican filmmaker who directed Damián Alcázar in Bajo California, el Límite del Tiempo (México, 1998); José Bojórquez, short film director who has received several awards at important film festivals; and Gherardo Garza Fausti (†), local filmmaker and member of the board of advisors for the Cineteca Nuevo León.

Promises (USA, 2001), an Oscar nominated documentary co-directed by Carlos Bolado was shown as a Special Presentation at the Festival. The film, which hadn’t been shown in Mexico yet, was a great success and not only premiered to a full theatre, but also with a standing ovation for the director.
