Monterrey International Film Festival is proud to present the personalities that make up the jury, who determine the winners of the official award: the Cabrito de Plata.
The international feature films in competition will be evaluated by Emma Bertrán, screenwriter of films such as «You will know what to do with me», by Katina Medina Mora, and «Juana», by Daniel Giménez Cacho; Maru Garzón, the artistic director of the Los Cabos International Film Festival; and Nicolás Celis, the producer and founder of Pimienta Films, producer of «Roma».
About Mexican feature films, the jury is composed of Claudio Pereira Navarro, Artistic Director of FICVIÑA; Deborah Micheletti, co-director of the International Biennial Dona i Cinema – Mujer y Cine – Woman and Film, and La Cabina – Valencia International Media Festival; and Oualid Mouaness, writer and director of Lebanese origin, whose film «1982» was Lebanon’s proposal for the Oscars in 2020.
The jury that evaluates short films is make up by Anabel Caso, content director of Landia México and producer Home Films; Felipe Montoya, head of programming at the Bogotá Short Film Festival – BOGOSHORTS, and Ignacio Hernández, the executive producer of Para Amanda Films, and distributor at SouthBorder Distribution.
About the work of the students that make up the KinoStart Selection, the jury is Abril Zales, the curator, and director of La Cresta; John Campos Gómez, the director of Transcinema International Film Festival (Peru); and Sofia Carrillo, director, and animator, winner of two Ariel awards.
What is the prize of the winners?
Those who are part of the Monterrey International Film Festival Competition have the possibility to win awards that contribute to continue the realization of their art.
The winners of the different categories will be announced on Wednesday, August 19 at 20h in a ceremony broadcast through the ficmonterrey social networks, and the winning films will be shown in Cinépolis Klic and FilminLatino on Thursday, August 20.
Even when the activities of ficmonterrey officially start on Thursday, August 13, from this August 11, the audience will be able to see on Facebook and YouTube of the Festival the Q&A sessions with some of the directors that make up the Official Selection in Competition. However, while most will be live broadcasts for viewers to interact with directors, some for logistics reasons will be pre-recorded.
The Q&A sessions are scheduled daily at 9:00 and 12:00. Detailed programming is available on the ficmonterrey.com website.
Below is a list of prizes that are being held as part of the festival.
ArtKingdom Award
A Mexican feature film will receive the award for promotion campaign, trailer production and poster design.
Filmorent Awards
The Best Feature Film of Nuevo León will receive a prize worth MXN 65,000, and the Best Short Film of Nuevo León a prize worth MXN 35,000, which includes a day of production equipment rental: camera, sound and mobile lighting and tramoya.
Calavera Post Award
El Mejor Largometraje Nuevo León recibirá 24 horas de corrección de color para su siguiente
producción y el Mejor Cortometraje Nuevo León recibirá un paquete DCP para un cortometraje de máximo 30 minutos.
Julián Guajardo Award
The Best Feature Film of Nuevo León and the Best Student short film of KinoStart will receive composing services from an Original Soundtrack, by composer Julián Guajardo, worth MXN 60,000 and MXN 40,000 respectively.
MGA Sound Award
The Best Mexican Short Film will receive a Sound Design Package, and the Best Student Short Film of KinoStart will receive a Sound Design and Color Correction package for the next production.
La Tuna Award
The Jury will choose a short film of Nuevo León from the KinoStart selection to be worthy of the The Tuna Award, with a value of MXN 120,000, that includes rental of equipment of camera, sound, and mobile lighting and tramoya.
The #16ficmonterrey is possible thanks to the support of the Secretariat of Culture, the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, the Government of Nuevo León through the Council for Culture and the Arts (CONARTE), the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León through the Secretariat of Extension and Culture and Cinépolis-Sala de Arte.
